For years I’ve had this tiny, old, weathered antler in my art studio knowing someday I would incorporate it into a weaving. I’ve had several years to ponder this antler, to imagine the creature it adorned. To think about the deer’s life and the terrain it inhabited, to dwell on the energies of the deer species – innocent, quiet, stealthy yet wild. In ancient times antlers were viewed as symbols to accessing higher spiritual planes.
The antler was shed naturally as you can tell by the blossom at the bottom of the antler. This is important to me knowing that the animal wasn’t harmed in the harvesting.
